WHAT ELOPEMENT MEANS TODAY!

Eloping used to be mostly for couples who wanted to escape and marry in secret. Nowadays, any couple can decide to elope, just the two of them in a special or stunning location they’ve dreamed of visiting together. When COVID-19 happened, many couples had to cancel their “big weddings,” and rather than wait for an undefined date when everything would return to normal, they chose to elope instead.

Countries like Canada and the United States imposed strict restrictions, while Mexico kept its doors open to tourists. As a result, Mexico became a popular elopement destination, and since then, I’ve met many couples from these countries who chose to elope here in my beautiful homeland.

But hey! Now couples can elope in a beautiful location by themselves and still come back home to celebrate with loved ones. Why not? There are no rules about what a “wedding” has to be.

Does Elopement Mean It’s Just the Two of You?

Not at all! You can bring along close family and friends. Why not? The best elopements often include only those who truly want to be part of the adventure. But you may wonder, how many guests can I have for this to be considered an elopement? Let’s say up to a maximum of 30 guests, though most couples keep it around 15.

Why Couples Choose to Elope

Planning a big wedding can be stressful, and it’s usually the bride who is in contact the most  with wedding planners, photographers, florists, and venues. There’s also the task of managing guest RSVPs, which can be a huge undertaking.

Eloping allows you to skip all that and instead book a simple, meaningful experience for just the two of you. Many photographers can help with location recommendations, small floral arrangements, and even a celebratory champagne toast. You can plan a romantic seaside dinner with a gorgeous view to end your day. Not only will this reduce stress, but it’s also much more affordable than a big wedding.

Still Not Sure Where to Elope?

Mexico has so many beautiful places to elope! From stunning beaches to breathtaking waterfalls, mountains, deserts, blue lakes, and colonial towns, you’ll find a wide variety of options. It’s not just the natural beauty—it’s also the rich culture and the warmth of the people.

About Me

My name is Mariana. I’m originally from an indigenous village in Hidalgo, Mexico. I lived in the United States for five years, and I’ve also spent time traveling in beautiful Canada (where I fell in love with BC and the Rocky Mountains!).

I hold a degree in Sustainable Tourism Development, and I studied photography for two years at a private school in Querétaro, Mexico.

Studying tourism opened my eyes to the richness of Mexico's culture and landscapes. I once challenged myself to travel hitchhiking with a friend from Germany, journeying from Nayarit all the way to Huatulco. This trip made me realize that Mexico isn’t just about beautiful beaches—it’s about the warm, welcoming people who shared so much love and kindness along the way.

Out of Mexico’s 32 states, I’ve visited 28, and I’d love to help you find the perfect location for your elopement in Mexico and to be there as your photographer, capturing the magic of your day.
