Mexico City is not the destination people expect for an elopement — and that’s exactly why it works.

While everyone else is fighting over the same beach in Tulum, you could be exchanging vows in a hidden garden in Chapultepec, or having churros at 11pm in a city that never really sleeps. This is not a “pretty backdrop” kind of place. This is a city with layers — Aztec ruins under colonial churches, world-class museums next to taco stands that will change your life, and light that photographers dream about.

As a Mexico City elopement photographer who also happens to be bilingual and trained in tourism, I don’t just show up and take your photos. I help you plan the whole thing — the parts nobody else tells you about. If you’re on the fence about choosing this city, this guide is for you.

Mexico City doesn’t try to be a resort. It’s a real, living, breathing capital — and that’s the appeal. The weather here is one of the best-kept secrets in the country: fresh, comfortable, with tree-lined neighborhoods that feel more like Paris than what people picture when they hear “Mexico.”
Add in an endless list of restaurants, flower markets, art museums (more than almost any other city on earth), pyramids a short drive away, and a genuine, walkable charm — and you start to see why couples who come here for one elopement session end up wanting to move here.

This isn’t a city you check off a list. It’s a city you fall for.

Mexico City has two international airports, and either one works well if you’re planning to spend a week or two here before flying to another Mexican destination.

Benito Juárez International Airport (MEX) — My pick if you’re arriving or departing at night. It’s the more established, central option.

Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA/NLU) — Honestly, my personal favorite. It’s newer, more comfortable, and flights here are often cheaper. There’s now a direct train connecting AIFA to the city center in about 40-50 minutes for less than $6 USD — fast, easy, and a lot less stressful than people assume.

Either way, you’re set. Both airports connect easily to the rest of the country if you want to island-hop your itinerary across Mexico.

Honestly? Any month works in Mexico City. If you want to avoid the heaviest rain, skip mid-July through September.

Even during rainy season, the rain here tends to fall in the afternoon — so you can plan your session for the morning and enjoy a coffee somewhere cozy while it passes. It rarely ruins a whole day.

My favorite neighborhoods to recommend to couples flying in are Roma Norte, Condesa, Polanco, Centro, Santa Fe,Chapultepec, and Coyoacán — each with its own personality, but all walkable, and full of things to do.

If you’re considering a different area, a simple trick: pull it up on Google Street View before booking. Once you’re here, Uber and Didi make it easy to get anywhere regardless of where you land.

If you don’t mind the metro(the subway), staying near a station means you can get almost anywhere in the city for about 5 pesos.

Here’s a trick even locals use: open Google Maps, but instead of choosing the driving route, select public transit. It will tell you exactly how far to walk to the nearest station, and update in real time as you move — how many stops are left and where to get off. The only thing to avoid is rush hour, when it can get overwhelming fast.

The Best Locations for Your Session

This really depends on the vibe you’re going for.

Xochimilco — if you want to celebrate. Think mariachi (paid by the song), a drink in hand, and the freedom to show up without a reservation, even last minute.

Parque Quetzalcóatl — the opposite energy: intimate, quiet, architectural, surrounded by nature. This one needs to be booked at least two months in advance.

Condesa — walkable, tree-lined streets with wide sidewalks made for wandering. Stop for a coffee, admire the art deco architecture, and let the textures and colors do the work for your photos.

Chapultepec Castle — lush green space full of life, with food and souvenir stalls scattered throughout. If you want to explore further, the castle itself offers stunning views over the city and the option to visit the museum inside.

The truth is, the “best” location is the one that matches who you are as a couple — which is exactly what we figure out together before your session.

Here’s something most photographers won’t tell you: Mexico City is the perfect home base for exploring the country beyond the city limits.

Nearby, you can:

• Hike a via ferrata in Mineral del Chico
• Chase waterfalls in Puebla
• Try canyoning in Hidalgo
• Soak in natural hot springs in Hidalgo
• Hike a volcano in Puebla
• Take a side trip to San Miguel de Allende

“Documentary” means I let you be you. I’ll never ask you to hold an awkward pose. Instead, I’ll guide you into small actions — “walk toward her, touch her hair back, hold her gently and kiss her” — and capture what happens naturally while you do it. No standing around wondering what to do with your hands. Just real moments, guided gently.

Do you speak English? Yes — fluently, along with Spanish. Language will never be a barrier working together.

Do I need to speak Spanish to plan my elopement here? Not at all. I handle communication with local vendors and guide you through everything.

How far in advance should we book?

You can reach out as little as two weeks before your trip, but for the best planning experience, I recommend getting in touch 3 months to a year in advance.
